WaveCrest Cafe Celebrates Lunch Lady Hero Day!
May 23rd, 2016
The first Friday of May each year is designated as Lunch Lady Hero Day. This is the 2nd straight year that WaveCrest Cafe has celebrated. The day was inspired by author Jarret J. Krosoczka’s Lunch Lady book series.
In January 2015, Jarrett came to speak to our team, as well as librarians and other resource teachers in the district. That year we celebrated our first Lunch Lady Hero Day. May 6th of 2016 was the 2nd straight year for the celebration, and classrooms across the district sang songs posted thank you notes and drew pictures and posters to thank the hard-working staff of WaveCrest Cafe for what they do.
Five classrooms were pronounced winners for their efforts, and will receive classroom parties, complete with food and snacks from WaveCrest Cafe. Those winning classrooms are:
Maryland Elementary: Ms. Arbelaez’s 5th grade class
Temple Heights Elementary: Mrs. Pence’s Kinder class
Roosevelt Middle School: Mrs. Rota’s class
Empresa Elementary School: Mrs. Rivera’s Room 19 class
Hanalei Elementary: Mrs. Shumacher’s class
Congratulations to all of our winning classes!
We’re so thankful for our team and are happy to celebrate them. Our WaveCrest Cafe staff shows tremendous care in not only preparing and serving fresh, healthy, delicious meals every day, but in the ways that they interact with students.
Our team is aware that they are among the only people at each school who may engage with every student, every day. We don’t take that lightly, and we work hard to provide a kind, caring and fun environment for our students, teachers and school staff.
Not long after Jarrett’s visit, each elementary school in the district was supplied a full set of the Lunch Lady books by WaveCrest Cafe. We’re thrilled to hear from librarians across the district that the books are among the most popular at their schools, and we hope that they also lead to opportunities to integrate nutrition education into the classroom.
