Poppy Seeds, the official publication of the California School Nutrition Association, recently published a spotlight article about our 2024 Farm to Summer Week promotion. National Farm to Summer Week is a chance to showcase the locally sourced foods we offer year-round.
WaveCrest Cafe hosted special taste test parties at three of its summer locations (Breeze Hill, Monte Vista, and the Boys & Girls Club), with foods from local, California farms like Fallbrook’s Dickinson Family Farms.

On October 11, 2018, seven VUSD schools were presented with the USDA Healthier US Schools Challenge Gold Award for their work to create, “healthier school environments through promotion of nutrition and physical activity.” The San Diego Union-Tribune was among the media outlets to cover the event, which saw officials from the USDA, the California Department of Education, and the City of Vista, as well as VUSD leaders, gather to celebrate the achievement.
