Vista Farmers Market Highlights Harvest Of The Month Program

January 04th, 2017

We were thrilled to see, just before the winter break, that the Vista Farmers Market highlighted our Harvest Of The Month classroom program in their newsletter.

We’re happy to be able to support the market, and many VUSD students have attended, either to volunteer with a school program, or, in the case of Vista High School’s Culinary Arts classes, to do cooking demonstrations at the market.

The newsletter wrote the following feature about our growing Harvest Of The Month program:

Vista Schools Bring Farm-Fresh Produce to Students

Farms are getting linked with the cafeteria and the classroom by tasting and exploring the featured fruit or vegetable each month. Harvest of the Month supports teaching students to develop healthy eating and physical activity habits to last a lifetime.

Participating classrooms get a FREE tasting party of the featured fruit/vegetable each month.  Featured farmers from the Vista Farmers Market have been Smit Farms (apples) and J.R. Organics (carrots).

Farmers are reaching the next generation!

The Vista Farmers Market is the oldest and longest-running in San Diego, and happens every Saturday from 8AM – 1PM at 325 South Melrose Drive in Vista, just south of Highway 78, about six miles east of Highway 5. Stop by and let them know that your friends at WaveCrest Cafe sent you!
