WaveCrest Cafe In The News! CW-6; Coast News and LiveWell SD

April 18th, 2016

WaveCrest Cafe’s recent launch of the California Thursdays initiative was well-covered by area media. The CW-6 morning news team visited Roosevelt Middle School where they visited with Principal Elise Ochenduszko, Cafeteria Lead Betsy Montes and a trio of Roosevelt students who touted the quality of our WaveCrest Cafe food. Also on hand was the owner/founder of Vista’s own Colors Gourmet Pizza, Martial Bricnet, explaining the fresh, hand-made method for creating our whole wheat pizza dough.

THE COAST NEWS
Not to be left out, The Coast News published this moving story featuring Bobier Elementary Principal Dr. Jenifer Golden, who expressed support for WaveCrest Cafe’s nutrition program, and shared some personal experiences, including this statement: “To know their [students’] only choice is a good choice means a lot to me,” Golden said. “I grew up in foster care where my lunch was a cold cheese sandwich. I’ve been very appreciative to see kids in poverty get healthy lunches. They’re just becoming healthier people. I love seeing them become so well-rounded.” Click on the image below or here to read the entire article.

WaveCrest Cafe was also featured in an article from LiveWell SD that covered the county-wide launch of California Thursdays, including a high profile event at San Diego’s Waterfront Park that drew 8 of the 12  San Diego County school districts participating in California Thursdays. The article mentioned that the collective of San Diego area schools serve upwards of 300,000 meals a day to students across the county, and that providing those students with fresh and often locally-sourced meals is a game-changer for school nutrition programs across the state.
