Monte Vista Wins Colorful Tray Contest

May 02nd, 2017

Students and staff at Monte Vista Elementary School recently celebrated their victory in a district-wide “Build A Colorful Tray” contest, with the entire school receiving free frozen treats.

The contest, conducted in partnership with the district’s Family & Community Engagement (FACE) Network, was a means to encourage students in all grades to take advantage of the diverse and consistently changing selection of fresh fruits and vegetables offered at all district WaveCrest Cafe locations.

Monte Vista FACE Liaison Rebecca Clark worked with WaveCrest Cafe site lead Liz Connealy to promote a “colorful tray day” when extra emphasis was placed on students building a colorful lunch tray.

Just as hundreds of district classrooms learn and sample different produce each month as part of the WaveCrest Cafe Harvest Of The Month program, the selection of fresh produce changes regularly. The fruits and vegetables offered reflect the changing growing seasons, allowing for our locations to serve the freshest available produce to students year-round.
